Description

Tufts University School of Dental Medicine seeks candidates for the position of Department Chair of Craniofacial Translational Research & the Associate Dean of Research. The Dean will be responsible for directing the "Imagine 2030" research strategic direction (aligning with university and national research plans); develop targeted research directions working with Chairs and Deans at TUSDM/across the university (other Tufts schools and units like DISC/AI) and with external partners (CTSI/NIH, etc.); stimulate collaborations across departments and schools that will result in significant grant application submissions; and, have oversight of the TUSDM research infrastructure (human and technological). The current staff and faculty that support the administration of grants and oversee risk and compliance would report to the Dean. The Dean/Chair will oversee current TUSDM researchers who will be appointed to this department (with secondary appointments to clinical departments as needed). The Chair will be responsible for research faculty recruitment and retention, research faculty development and promotion guidance. To support the educational mission of the School this Chair will insure that the Department's faculty have some teaching responsibilities for advanced graduate level masters/doctoral courses. The Chair/Dean will also work to support research staff and postdoctoral/graduate students. The Chair will be responsible for space development and allocation for the basic and clinical sciences (including the current clinical trial center).

The successful candidate will need to have demonstrated vision with regard to craniofacial translational research and should have a successful track record of sustained clinical and/or translational research and funding, with a strong record of leadership and management skills. The candidate should be accomplished in retention, recruitment, development, and mentorship of outstanding faculty, staff, and trainees, including those traditionally underrepresented in respective fields. We also seek a visionary candidate with the ability to integrate school research efforts and build interdisciplinary programs with the broader university and external partners.
